What is ISDN2e? ISDN2e is the new digital type telephone line. The 'e' standards for European standard and the '2' stands for 2 channels. An ISDN2e line is actually 2 lines (channels) in one, so you can be on the internet and still receive/make another call.
Can I connect an ISDN adapter/modem directly to an extension on an ISDN PBX phone system? Yes, by setting an ISDN port to internal instead of external use on a PBX phone system you can connect up to 8 ISDN devices (ISDN adapters/ modems, ISDN phones, etc.) to each internal ISDN port (otherwise known as an S0-BUS).
What is CLIP? Calling Line Identity Presentation (CLIP) allows standard or digital CLIP telephones to show you the number calling before lifting the handset. You must have CLI enabled on your telephone line for this feature to work, talk to your telephone line provider about this.
I have a standard phone line with Caller Display on it. Can i use one of your CLIP phone on it? No. Our CLIP phone are designed to work on our phone systems only and will not work if plugged directly into UK a phone line.
What is the price for an ISDN2e line and can I upgrade my existing analogue line? Yes you can upgrade your existing analogue line to ISDN2e and BT charge £99 to do this. Click here to go to BT's current ISDN prices on both new lines and upgrades.
What advantages does ISDN give me over analogue? The main advantage of ISDN is MSN or DDI numbers, which allow multiple telephone numbers across a range of ISDN lines. It will also increase your internet access speed from 56k (Even though most providers only support 33k) to 64k or, by binding access so that you use both ISDN channels, 128k (Does double the phone bill though and not all ISP's support binding).
What does MSN mean and what does it give me? MSN stands for Multi-Subscriber Numbering. You can have up to 10 MSN numbers on a single ISDN2e line. The numbers are usually issued at random by your line provider and by using an ISDN PBX phone system you can assign specific MSN numbers to specific extensions, giving everyone their own phone number. You can only use MSN numbers on single ISDN lines.
What is DDI and what does it give me? DDI is much the same as MSN numbers but the numbers issued by your line provider are sequential and they can cover more than one ISDN2e line, i.e. If you have an ISDN line with 10 channels on it, you can have 50 DDI numbers.
Can I connect a fax machine or answerphone to an ISDN PBX phone system? Yes. The analogue extensions on ISDN PBX's allows you to connect these plus cordless phones, etc. If you assign an MSN or DDI number to the extension where you wish to connect your fax machine, all calls on that number will go directly to it.
How can I make my business look bigger? As described above, by using MSN/DDI numbers on your ISDN line you could have just 1 line (2 channels) with 10 different numbers on it. So your staff could each give their customers direct numbers to reach them on.
